To avoid the price hike and massive crowd on New Year’s eve and New Year, Mr T and I decided to have a relaxing afternoon tea instead. London has numerous great place offering delightful afternoon and all we could do is to tick off one place at a time. The jackpot this time went to Shangri-la Hotel at the Shard.
Ting lounge is located at the 35th floor of the Shard. Since the timing we choose was off peak, it provided a tranquil environment to enjoy our afternoon tea. Even when it is super pack, the ambiance is as such that we will still be able to have our own space and privacy. The best part of this location is the amazing view it offers – 360 degrees view that overlooks River Thames, Tower of London, Tower bridge and the beautiful city itself.
The ambiance is of the highest form of elegance with soft lightings and comfortable seating. It even had a grand piano near the entrance. Overall, it is a place to wind down, soak in the luxurious atmosphere along with the great view.
The afternoon tea at the Ting lounge serves classic English afternoon tea and Asian inspired afternoon tea.The English Afternoon Tea consists of freshly-cut sandwiches, delicious pastries and Earl Grey scones from the English selection, sweet confections with the option to add a glass of champagne. We really enjoyed the scones and sweet confections. They were really delicious that we ordered a second helping. However, the sandwiches could have fared better.
The best time to go the an hour before sunset so one could enjoy the marvellous view of the city when the skyline transforms into moonlight. The afternoon tea is served 12pm to 6:00pm from Monday to Friday, 11:30am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Booking is essential prior to visiting the restaurant and Ting Lounge has smart casual dress code.
Overall, it is worth going at least once. The food is not overly mind blowing but the experience is worth it especially on a special occasion.
